A WILLOUBGHY backyard designed by a West Pymble landscape architect will be on the television series, Best Garden’s Australia.
The garden, in High Street Willoughby, was designed by Anthea Dunlop and also received a silver award in the 2014 Landscape Design Awards in the residential Under $50,000 category.
Anthea Dunlop, of Pymble has been in garden design for more than 20 years and said the owner was a novice gardener who was keen to develop a green thumb, but mostly wanted a place to unwind.
“My brief was to create an inviting and usable informal garden,” said Anthea Dunlop. “This involved making the long narrow space appear larger, screening the fences, improving the access from the existing deck to the garden and creating spaces for casual barbecues and larger gatherings,” she said.
Anthea Dunlop used steps for informal seating and created an area on the lower level for entertaining.
She said there was also a fire pit, for a winter’s night, and a red wall that draws the eye to the upper level and can be sat on as the homeowner tends to the barbecue. “There is winter sun, and shade for summer. It is a refuge and a usable place, just what a garden should be,” she said.
