before and after
What a pleasure it is to work with Anthea Dunlop – third house, third Anthea Dunlop Design garden. I know I am the client but feel really a part of the process of transforming my garden with her expertise. She listens to expressions of how you wish to enjoy the garden as well as how much you can budget for the garden
We first became aware of Anthea’s design skills when we saw her garden at a function and we both agreed it looked amazing.
The challenge we posed to Anthea was to bring together as one integrated garden an extremely difficult and irregular shaped parcel of land with a large inconveniently placed tallowwood. Anthea’s design included concepts we would never have thought of ourselves and her use of curves and strategic planting has resulted in a seamless and tranquil garden that was well beyond our expectations with surprising colour all year round. Anthea’s design around the tallowwood resulted in it being one of our favourite segments of the garden.
Anthea went beyond advising us on the garden and guided us on practical matters to improve our third party design of the swimming pool, fencing and paving as well as colour choice for our building. Her experience and understanding on these matters led to significant improvements on the initial design for which we are most thankful.
We would certainly recommend Anthea for any landscape design project.

We wanted a landscape architect’s understanding of how a house and garden are used and how they relate to each other, that’s why we asked Anthea to design our garden, and re-think our access to the house. She understood our site very quickly, the level changes are tricky, and her ideas were do-able and practical – and exciting.
Anthea broke down what needs to be done into stages that we can manage – we need to do a LOT but now we know where to start.
We love what she suggested – just need more time to get into the garden!

I saw Anthea’s work in a magazine and was impressed by the area she created. After an extensive renovation of my house I needed advice on how to improve the outdoor spaces and entertaining areas. I was struggling to find the right furniture/pots, water feature and plants. Anthea advised on all of these and the results are beautiful. I am a keen gardener myself and was surprised and delighted by Anthea’s knowledge of plants and design and the choices she helped me make suit the spaces perfectly.
Anthea was a joy to work with throughout and I am thrilled with what she has achieved
Our large garden had been extensively landscaped when we renovated our house nearly 20 years ago , but had been neglected for the past 6 or 7 years . I chose Anthea to help me update and improve what was there as well as tidy it up , for us , but also with the idea that we would probably sell the house within 1-2 years . Anthea was completely responsive to what I wanted , but offered creative and practical ideas , and listened to my input . She was sensitive to budget issues , and reined me in when necessary . The most unexpected aspect was how easy it all was . I had been putting the garden off , and now I wish I had called her a year ago . The tradesmen she worked with were all excellent , and a pleasure to have around. I am happy to recommend Anthea.

We chose anthea dunlop landscape design from our list of designers because she listened to our ideas and overall goals. After building a separate dwelling on our property we were left with some small and very difficult spaces which Anthea turned into useable and exciting spaces with the beach/tropical feel that we wanted. Anthea used some old sandstone from the site for walls and paving and we love all the different plants she has planted. Watching it all grow and not having too much maintenance is just right for our lifestyle.

Our landscaping experience was the one of the most positive parts of our whole renovation experience.
We chose anthea based on the recommendation of friends. Following our initial consultation we were impressed by the pictures of previous work and her professional manner. Our particular problem was a garden in a state of significant disrepair following our renovation and a property with a fairly precipitous slope away from the house.
Since the landscaping has been completed we love spending time down in the garden with the kids. The aesthetics are great both looking down from the deck over the garden or looking back up at the house from the garden.
The most unexpected benefit from the garden has been putting in lights that transform it at night time.

Anthea was recommended by a friend who had her rear garden successfully designed by her.
We were extremely pleased with the result and shortly afterwards, asked her to redesign another part of the front garden including changing the front steps leading into the house which gave a much better and safer entrance. Again she helped us find good contractors to execute her design.
We are extremely pleased with the outcome and consistently receive compliments from visitors.

Anthea listened to the very specific needs I had for my garden while adding novel and attractive approaches I would never have thought of. Design, planting choices and long term easy maintenance were well considered to produce a garden that is both useful and beautiful.
